Dominican authorities to participate at Hispaniola 2014
The news about our conference has reached the Dominican Republic. We are happy to announce that the deputy foreign minister Alejandra Liriano will be addressing our conference Friday morning, in an additional panel on the Dominican-Haitian dialogue.
She will offer the Dominican Governments perspective, and then be available for questions and commentaries.
It is our hope and intention that this will lead to a fruitful exchange of ideas and views, and we’re quite exited about this addition to our conference.
You can read more about the response to our conference at the Norlablogg (in Norwegian), which belongs to one of our partners, NorLARNet.
This good news has also been shared by the Dominican web newspaper Acentodiario (click the image to be redirected or check out the Facebook feed connected to the same issue):
Hispaniola 2014 in Dominican media!
We’re happy to notice that our conference is being picked up by the Dominican media. Check out Acento.com.do for that an other news from the DR. Good stuff! Hopefully we may also interest both Haitian and Norwegian media as our gathering in Oslo approaches.
Local models of conflict prevention in Haiti
Wenche Hauge is an experienced researcher at PRIO, and a respected connoisseur of Latin American and Haitian politics and society here in Norway. Her trajectory includes several projects in Haiti, including collaborations with another of our conference speakers, Rachelle Doucet.
Her presentation at Hispaniola 2014 is something we really look forward to, and it’s been titled “Local models of conflict prevention in Haiti”. This stems from a project that has its focus on local capacities for the prevention of violence in Haiti. The objective is to identify models of conflict prevention rooted in Haitian traditions or adaptable to the Haitian context. The project is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
